Skills Needed to Be A Great Metal Fabricator

The Right Skills For The Job

Metal fabrication is the process of building structures from components made from metal, using various processing technologies, such as bending, cutting, welding and assembly, all based on engineering drawings. The processes requires physical strength, but strength alone does not make a great metal fabricator – here are a few other skills that are required:

  • Technical skills – metal fabricators work based on manuals, blueprints and other instructions and they usually need to use computers and other machines, so they need to be familiar with the theoretic background of the processes involved in their work as well as with aspects related to actually operating the machines;
  • Math – metal fabricators need strong math skills to be able to work with precision;
  • Stamina – most processes in metal fabrication require the worker to stand on his feet, therefore metal fabricators need to be in great physical condition;
  • Dexterity – whether they operate precision machines or do manual work, metal fabricators need great dexterity to be able to do their job.

While most companies do not require specific certificates for employment, metal fabricators need a high school diploma and a welding certificate or a certificate obtained in other technologies involved is a plus that increase the chances of landing the right job.  Some of the best metal fabrication can be found at https://www.haselden.com/miscellaneous-metals/.
