Due to the increase in complexity of the construction projects made during the last years (consumed energy management systems, security, communications etc.), involving more and more specialists from different fields, who need to change large amounts of information in order to achieve a good result, the future of the construction industry will be strongly influenced by one of the newest approaches emerging in recent years: Building Information Modeling (BIM). Many of the construction companies in Denver are very interested in BIM.
BIM is the determining factor in migrating the entire design process of a building from a process based on 2D working methods to a process focused on parameterized and intelligent 3D models, in fact realizing the virtual construction of the buildings before the onsite physical construction (Virtual Design and Construction – VDC).
At the basis of the BIM concept is the possibility that all the involved specialties (architecture, structure etc.) use a unique 3D model of the building from which all the necessary drawings and representations will be extracted: plans, sections, elevations, execution details, quantities and price estimates, including As-build documentation. Any changes made to the unique model are automatically reflected in all the drawings and documents that are extracted from it, which allows the efficient management of the changes in the project. This is extremely important since the clients usually agree to pay only the final project and not the changes made during its elaboration.
